‘Clinical’ player Real Madrid let go in the summer struggles to find new club

Real Madrid flop Eden Hazard departed the club earlier this summer, but is still yet to find a new club ahead of the European season starting.

The 32-year-old had his contract terminated after a nightmare spell at the Santiago Bernabeu, and the £100m winger will go down as quite possibly the worst signing in the club’s history.

The Belgium international was one of the best players in the world when he joined from Chelsea, but completely failed to live up to expectations as he struggled with injuries, fitness and form, and was unable to play at the level required to succeed with Los Blancos.

SPORT have reported that two months after leaving, he is struggling to find a club that will take him on. He was linked with Inter Miami, who have signed Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, but that move now seems unlikely.

He even considered an early retirement in these last few months, and given the lack of interest in him, he may consider that option again unless he receives an offer.

A move back to Chelsea or the Premier League looks out of the question, and he will have to take a much lower salary than the one he received at Real Madrid wherever he goes.

Where did it go wrong for Hazard?

No one could have predicted that his signing would go as badly as it did, despite him missing most of his first season at the club with injury.

He occasionally started to show glimpses of his old form, with Carlo Ancelotti even describing him as “clinical” after he scored, but he managed just seven strikes in 76 appearances for the club.

The emergence of Vinicius Junior consigned him to the bench, and he found himself out of Ancelotti’s plans in his final few seasons, spending most games as an unused substitute.

A player that used to terrorise Premier League defences found himself out of confidence and fitness and is now without a club, and without a plan of where to go next, and despite his poor spell at Real Madrid, fans may be hopeful that he can find a team where he will be able to enjoy playing football again.
