Former Real Madrid hero Isco has now admitted that he should have left the club earlier than he did, but has reiterated his respect for Los Blancos.
The midfielder endured a few years of struggle towards the end of his spell with Real Madrid as he lost his form and fitness, but now looks revitalised at Real Betis.
A failed stint at Sevilla last season raised questions about Isco’s future in the game, but he has shone for Manuel Pellegrini’s side early on this season, and looks back to his majestic best.
Speaking to AS, Isco claimed that whilst he should have departed earlier to help his career, he hopes that Real Madrid fans will give him a good reception whenever the two sides meet.
“I would like to have a great reception from the fans because Real Madrid was the most important team of my sporting career, which I will always love and respect,” he stated.
“I always tried to do my best, although perhaps I should have left earlier due to my situation in the last stage. But you learn from everything.”
A Real Madrid hero
Isco joined Real Madrid for around £23m 10 years ago, and was a key part of the side which won multiple Champions Leagues.
At his best, he was one of the best midfielders in the world, with his sublime technical ability helping him shine alongside the likes of Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo.

It has not been plain sailing for him at all in the last few seasons, and his time at Real Madrid was clearly over a long time ago. Injuries hampered his progress at the club, and the form of Toni Kroos and Modric meant he struggled for minutes in midfield.
Real Betis do not play at the Bernabeu until the final game of the season, but he is sure to receive a good reception from the Real Madrid fans, who will be delighted that such a talented player is now enjoying his football again.
