Jude Bellingham proved crucial yet again for Real Madrid as he scored another last-minute winner, with a goal against Union Berlin in his Champions League debut for the club.
The Englishman has been arguably the club’s best player this season and has scored in nearly every game he has played. With a number of key players out injured, he has led by example and his teammates are now delighted that he has joined.
Speaking after the dramatic victory at the Santiago Bernabeu, midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni heaped praise on Bellingham and highlighted the happiness within the club that the 20-year-old is currently thriving in Madrid.
“He’s an incredible player and we’re delighted to have him with us,” Tchouameni stated.
Attacking influence
The 20-year-old has been playing in a role which sees him vacate the midfield to join the frontline as an additional attacker. Winger Rodrygo has lined up alongside striker Joselu as a striking duo, with Bellingham just behind at the tip of a midfield diamond.
This has meant that his main responsibilities lie in the final third, rather than in build-up, and he is now the main goalscorer within the team.
He has taken to his role perfectly, with his sharp movement helping him find shooting opportunities, and he has now scored six times in his opening six games for the club.
Once Vinicius Junior returns from injury, it will be interesting to see whether the goals are spread around the team more, or if Bellingham can continue his form in front of goal, but his influence on the attack right now makes him Real Madrid’s most important player.
