Real Madrid have been handed a boost ahead of their derby clash against rivals Atletico Madrid on Sunday, as three key players have returned to training following absences.

Star player Jude Bellingham missed training on Friday with a stomach illness potentially creating worry that he may not be available on Sunday for the huge match. However, he returned to training today and looked set to be fine for the derby.

Summer signing Arda Guler was dealt a huge blow when he was ruled out with a long-term injury before he had even made his debut, but he has now joined first-team training. However, it does seem unlikely that he will appear tomorrow. Nevertheless, this is a massive boost for the club and the player.

Attacking sensation Vinicius Junior has also missed the last few games with injury but he has now returned to training as well, and it remains to be seen whether he will be able to play a part against Real Madrid’s heated rivals.

The Athletic have now reported that Vinicius and Guler were in training but only able to complete part of the session, therefore making it unlikely that they will appear tomorrow.

The importance of the Derby

Carlo Ancelotti will be delighted that Bellingham is fit to face Atletico, in what will be his first Derby, especially given how crucial he has been to the side since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund.

Despite an injury crisis, Real Madrid have won all of their games this season so far and will be looking to continue that form against an Atletico side who are currently struggling.

Diego Simeone’s side lost 3-0 to Valencia last week, before being dealt a hammer blow in the Champions League, as Lazio’s goalkeeper scored a last-minute equaliser in Rome.

Real Madrid now have the opportunity to lay down a marker against their bitter rivals, and send a message to Barcelona, that they are in major contenders for the title this season.
