Kylian Mbappe’s stand-off with Paris Saint Germain could reach a resolution soon, as his club await his decision over his future.

The 24-year-old does not want to sign a new deal in Paris, and has reportedly agreed terms with Real Madrid for a free transfer next summer. However, his club want to sell him now if he does not extend his deal, and he could end up moving for a massive fee in this transfer window.

Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano gave an update on the Mbappe situation, amidst links with English clubs.

“Honestly, at the moment I am not aware of any concrete conversation with English clubs. We are still waiting for Mbappe to communicate his decision to PSG,” he stated.

“The crucial moment will be when Mbappe communicates his decision to PSG. In that moment, if he will say no, I’m not extending, I think that will be a crucial moment to set the asking price.

“At the moment PSG don’t want to confirm any asking price, they want to wait for Mbappe to communicate any decision. In case he say, no, I’m not going to sign a new deal – they will put him on the market. In that moment we will understand a bit more.”

“But let me say that Real Madrid remain the big favourites. They have been working on Mbappe for three or four years so they are still there, they are well informed and Madrid remain big favourites for Kylian Mbappe.”

Where could Mbappe fit in at Real Madrid?

If the World Cup winner does arrive this summer, he could be the natural replacement for Karim Benzema as a central striker.

Although he plays with another centre-forward in Olivier Giroud for the French national team, Mbappe ranks as one of the best in Europe for his playmaking and passing ability as a striker, which Benzema provided in abundance.

It seems that Florentino Perez’s dream is to have an attacking trio with young elite-level talents in Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, and with the likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Jude Bellingham in midfield, Real Madrid’s squad looks set to compete for the next decade.

With Joselu arriving as attacking depth, Mbappe could even play alongside the Spanish target man on either wing, and his versatility could come in useful for Carlo Ancelotti if he signs for the club whilst the Italian remains in charge.
