Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies will not be joining Real Madrid this summer, Fabrizio Romano has claimed.

The left-back has been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, but it appears that the Canadian will not be leaving Bayern this summer.

He may still remain in Real Madrid’s sights for the future, but given that Fran Garcia has returned to the club, the position is not a priority right now.

Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Romano confirmed that the 22-year-old would not be moving to Spain this summer.

“Not this summer. I think this summer he is going to stay at Bayern,” he stated.

“The idea of Bayern is to keep Alphonso, and the idea is to negotiate a new contract but he remains on Real Madrid’s list for the future. He is one of the players they really appreciate for the future, so let’s say maybe the situation changes, but at the moment it’s quiet for this summer, but for the future he is a player who they really appreciate.”

Do Real Madrid need Davies?

Los Blancos now have a plethora of options at left-back, with Garcia, Ferland Mendy, Nacho and Eduardo Camavinga all capable of playing the role.

Whilst Davies would inject a lot of pace, and extra attacking threat on the left-hand side, he is not a priority, as Real Madrid look to get a deal done for Kylian Mbappe.

Although the Canadian would be an upgrade on their current options, Real might wish to see how Garcia performs upon his return from Rayo Vallecano. If the Spaniard can add defensive solidity, as well as helping Vinicius Junior in his attacking role, then he may be seen as a better fit for the position than Davies, who would likely want to push forward more.

Bayern may also be reluctant to sell a star player unless a significant offer is received, and Real may not be able to pursue such a big move this summer if they are to pay for Mbappe.
