Real Madrid have been dealt a huge blow, as Arda Guler has picked up an injury that could see him sidelined for an extended period.

AS have reported that he has injured his right meniscus after he noticed some discomfort during Real Madrid’s pre-season tour in the USA.

There is currently no return date on the cards, although there are now two possible scenarios depending on how the player and club wish to proceed.

Guler could either rest for up to two months in anticipation that the pain subsides without further treatment, or he could have surgery to fix the problem, which will see him sidelined for up to four months.

This is a huge blow for the new signing, who joined from Fenerbahce this summer, and he is yet to appear in the famous White shirt.

How big a blow is this for Real Madrid?

Guler arrived at Madrid as a golden talent, capable of stepping into the first team immediately despite his young age and relative inexperience.

A long-term injury could set his progress back for a significant part of the season, and he now does not have the luxury of a pre-season campaign to integrate within the team.

The 18-year-old had impressed in his limited training appearances so far, with Toni Kroos describing the Turkey international as a “great talent,” and the club will hope his injury is not too serious and he can return to action quickly.

Guler scored nine times and assisted 12 in 51 Fenerbahce appearances, which put a lot of clubs on Europe on high alert, and Real Madrid considered themselves lucky to win the race for his signature.

Any excitement about watching him in action will now have to be put on hold whilst the full extent of his injury is assessed.
