‘I would understand’: Michael Owen calls for ‘world-class’ player to consider Real Madrid transfer

Former Real Madrid attacker Michael Owen has called for Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane to consider moving to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Spurs have accepted a transfer bid from Bayern Munich for the 30-year-old, who now has a decision to make of whether to join the German champions, but Owen has called on him to either choose Real Madrid or to stay in England.

Owen moved to Real Madrid from Liverpool, but spent just one season in Spain before moving to Newcastle, but he has encouraged Kane to follow his path to Los Blancos in search of glory.

“I know Bayern are a massive club and I have huge respect for them but if I were Kane I’d stay put. There’s no great achievement in winning a trophy with them. Real Madrid I would understand. Or one or two top Premier League clubs for that matter. Becoming the all time Premier League top goal scorer at Spurs is a bigger achievement than winning the league in a country dominated by 1 team,” he tweeted.

Should Real Madrid move for Harry Kane?

The long-term aim of Real Madrid seems to be focused on Kylian Mbappe, but with recent reports now indicating that he will not be moving this summer, Florentino Perez could consider Kane as an alternative option for now.

Mbappe may join Real Madrid for free next summer, amidst rumours of an agreement already being in place, but with Karim Benzema departing, Kane could come in as an immediate replacement.

The Englishman has been described as “world-class,” and with 30 Premier League goals last season, he could arrive as a forward who could make Real Madrid favourites for the Champions League.

Real will likely be able to afford matching the €100m (£86m) Bayern have reportedly offered for him, and if Kane heeds Michael Owen’s advice, he may consider a move to the Spanish capital.

He could be the ideal forward to play alongside Vinicius Junior, as he can replicate both Benzema’s output in front of goal as well as his playmaking ability outside of the box.

It may be too late for a move if Kane does agree to go to Bayern, but it is certainly a move for both the player and the club to consider.
